About

Published by Joyce

I’m a graduate journalism student with a concentration in New Media at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. I’m originally from Alabama, but I lived in Los Angeles for the last few years before moving to Chicago in June. When I’m not busy with school, I enjoy reading, playing tennis, going to concerts and salsa dancing, among other activities. I’ve created this site for my New Media Storytelling class, so it includes class work as well as personal information.

I find the sex education topic fascinating because it relates to larger issues such as moral and cultural debates over who should be teaching kids about sex and what they should be learning, if anything (an abstinence-only-before-marriage stance, versus comprehensive sex education that includes discussion of contraceptives). Also, government funding for these programs is a major issue right now because several states have recently rejected federal funding that is mandated as abstinence-only education, amid worries that it is ineffective.

I’d love to hear from you! I can be reached at sexeducation2007@gmail.com.
